- Nicole Guimaraes (Kukieza) began her musical studies at age nine on the trombone and began specializing in tuba when she was thirteen. Her initial private studies were with professional trombonist, Bruce Lazier.
Nicole completed her undergraduate education at Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY where she studied with Dr. Aaron Tindall, Dave Unland, and Edwin Diefes. She graduated summa cum laude with degrees in both Music Education and Tuba Performance. Nicole then went on to earn a full performance scholarship to complete her Master's Degree in Tuba Performance at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fl. At Lynn she studied with Empire Brass tubist, Kenneth Amis.
Nicole is currently the music teacher at Britt Elementary School in Snellville, GA. Prior to moving to GA, Nicole also served as the String Orchestra Director at Betsy Ross Arts Magnet School in New Haven, CT and as the Band Director at The Conservatory School @ North Palm Beach in North Palm Beach, FL. She has taught in numerous schools throughout PA, NY, FL, CT, and GA, including serving as a brass instructor for the award-winning North Allegheny Marching Band (Wexford, PA).
Besides music, Nicole, who started Tae Kwon Do at age seven, is a third degree black belt and competitive weightlifter, representing Zang TKD and New Haven Weightlifting Club respectively. She is always looking for ways to combine music with these interests and as a result created her own show for tuba and Tae Kwon Do titled, “All My Life.”
Nicole has had lessons and performed in master classes for musicians such as Carol Janstch, Sergio Finca, Gerry Pagano, Jay Hunsberger, Mike Gross, Steven Campbell, and Aaron Tindall. She performs on a MW 2182 F Tuba and a MW 3450 CC Tuba. Nicole is also a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honors Society.
